Not at all uncommon. Every male dog I have owned has humped something. Especially the younger ones. Humping is a way of showing dominance and what better way to reassure yourself than to hump something that can't fight back. My 12 week old German Shepherd puppy has been doing this since we brought him home at 8 weeks. He has what we call his "love pillow". It a small rectangular pillow that he tosses around and humps. What's really funny is sometimes he'll lay on his back and hump it. That was something I had never seen before. It's the only thing in the entire house he tries to hump so I'm thankful for that. He was "attempting" to do this within the litter as well before we brought him home. We were able to watch the litter grow from day 5, once every couple weeks we visited, and finally chose our beautiful boy at 6 weeks, we had 1st pick of the litter.

Puppy signs of dominance, that is how it is expressed. Th dog is NOT a sexual deviant as someone here suggested.
The question is, why does the dog have a teddy bear? It is a dog, you know!! Hope I helped.

Your pup is just experimenting, mine did the same. I corrected him and he never done it again until about 5 months old. I caught him humping several times and I corrected him each time, a month later he was castrated and he doesn't do it anymore. Don't worry, just tell him 'no' or spray him with a water spray if he persists.

Puppies as young as 4 or 5 weeks will hump their litter mates - nothing to do with sex, it's a dominance thing. If you discourage it by removing the teddy & diverting his attention to something more interesting, he'll soon stop.

Apparently our Alsatian sodomised his teddy so bad they had to bury the poor thing. That was before they gave him to us, now its his blanket, don't know why but straight after he has had something to eat he grabs the blanket with both paws and humps it silly. He has been fixed up so i don't know why he does it. To add insult to the cause he is already 18 months old, going to have his name put on the abusers list.

My dads dog does it, but to be honest we suspect that he's just a sexual deviant.
Seriously though; the instinct kicks in from an early age (though that does sound very early). If the pup becomes inceasingly agressive with it I would take him the vet; otherwise just chalk it down to normal doggy behaviour

6 months plus.
I had a mini poodle who did this all his life, even when he'd been neutered! It was very embarassing, lol!!

Hi
Yes seems a bit young, but to be honest any age of dog could start to do it,
It tends to be male dogs with there bits intact, but can also be male dogs with bits removed, even bitches do it . it is sexual urges & dominience
Best to put a stop to it early on, before it gets embarasing.
As soon as you dog starts to do it shake either a tin of coins, bottle of pebbles or use training disc's (available on Ebay)
Once you dog walks away from the teddy reward him.
remember to reward him as soon as he stops this way he will remember, tin means NO , treat means YES good boy
best of luck D

Our German Shephard started doing this at about 6 months, and still does it now (she's 6 1/2 years old now.) She does it to pillows, her soft toys, but to us as well. We don't really know how to get her to stop except diverting her attention, but she still does it. We think it's a dominance think, but we're not really sure.

Usually 3-6 months of age, this varies between dogs and is not always a sexual thing. I would highly suggest taking the Bear away from him, especially if you don't plan on having him fixed soon

Hmm. Well i do know that they do it, but i can't remember when. I know they don't when they are little. I think from 6 months and up, that is if they do it at all...
